Property & Evidence Management Course
for Law Enforcement Agencies

This two day course provides a unique training opportunity for Law Enforcement Personnel responsible for, or actively involved in, the operation, supervision or management of a Property and Evidence Unit.
Class Schedule
& Registration

Special attention will be given to:

  • Audits - with special emphasis on record keeping, security practices, and preventing the loss of physical evidence.
  • Legal Guidelines - and written directives, designed to prevent liability claims and to enable effective response to lawsuits.
  • Case Studies - of Property Room mismanagement, with guidance on avoiding lost evidence, lawsuits, and agency embarrassment.
  • Chain of Custody Issues - including documentation.
  • Computerization and Bar Coding - selection of vendors, hardware, software.
  • Facility Design - space requirements, creative storage solutions, and security issues.
  • Policies and Procedures - for all areas of property management, including sample policies and other handout material.
  • Destruction, Disposal, Purging - the most critical procedures for limiting inventory.
  • Class discussion and problem solving - Chances are that others have shared, and solved, some problems facing your agency.

    • Training Format: Intensive 16 hour classroom style course designed to maximize learning. Extensive slide and video collection illustrates properly designed facilities.
    • Exchange Ideas: Network with other professionals from large and small agencies across the nation. This training course will acquaint individuals with the technicalities and responsibilities involved in the daily function of a property unit.
    • Keeping Up and Staying Ahead: Training has been designed to help recognize and avoid the pitfalls that can lead to court challenges, lawsuits, poor press relations, disciplinary action, termination and indictments. Presentations on state of the art technology provide an understanding of how to expedite the property function.
    • Instructors: Instructors are recognized experts in the field, with professional and academic credentials.
    • Class Composition and Size: Limited size classes of sworn and civilian personnel involved in the operation, supervision and the management of the property function.
    • Tuition Fee: The course fee includes tuition, student workbook, and study materials.
    • Transportation and Lodging: All training will be held at the hotel listed. Hotels provide airport shuttle for participants. Food and lodging is the responsibility of each participant.
    • Certification of Attendance: Each student will receive a certificate of attendance, in addition to the class materials and the valuable knowledge.

  • Completed registration forms should be submitted three weeks prior to the training session along with check, money order, or purchase order to IAPE Training at the address shown on the form.
