  1. Counterfeit bills are handled the same as cash with the only difference being the Impounding Officer must mark the evidence  receipt and money envelope as containing possible counterfeit bills.  It is up to the Impounding Officer to contact the Secret Service for case follow-up.

BEER KEGS
    1. If a beer keg is seized for any reason other then a felony offense the following procedure must be completed:
        a. Complete and attached an evidence label.
        b. Photograph the beer keg.
        c. Place the photos and keg into evidence  (see photo submission).
    2.
Place the property-evidence report (yellow & green) in the property-evidence basket in the Evidence Processing Room.

  1. The evidence officers will return the keg to OLCC upon submission to evidence. Beer kegs are not held in evidence.

STORAGE

  1. After receiving a beer keg into property  evidence, call the OLCC (503) 872-5197, to ensure the keg is picked up as soon as possible.

 

1/06/2004 Changes and Additions to SYRINGES and RAZOR BLADES.
SUMMARY of CHANGES: The State Crime Lab is now accepting some syringes for testing of its contents.  Because of this change the Property Evidence Unit will now accept syringes, but only if strict packaging procedures are followed.

 

  1. If you want to retain the contents of the syringe as evidence and cannot empty them into a vial (FOR STATE CRIME LAB SUBMISSION ONLY):

  1. Place syringe w/ needle attached into a small round biohazard sharps tube with the orange ends (see above).

  2. Complete and attach an evidence label to the tube.

  3. Seal each end of the tube with red evidence tape, initial and date on tape.

  4. Complete the Forensics Service request form, and place blue and yellow copies into basket in Evidence Processing Room.

  5. Complete the property-evidence report.

  6. Place the item in an evidence locker. Note the location on the property-evidence report.

  7. Place the yellow and green copy of the property-evidence report in the property-evidence basket in the Evidence Processing Room.

  8. Complete the Oregon State Police Forensics Services Request, and place the blue and yellow copies into the property-evidence basket in the Evidence Processing Room.

EVIDENCE OFFICER PROCEDURES

STORAGE:

  1. Dried blood with a potential to be used for DNA testing should be refrigerated until analyzed, then frozen.

  2. Liquid blood (such as samples in test tubes) should only be refrigerated.

DISPOSAL

  1. Upon authorization or disposition of the case.

  2. Check to see if there are prints.

  3. Destroy the prints.

  4. Return the negatives to the photo file and return them to the photo file drawers.

  3. Once disposal is authorized place all negatives and any remaining prints into the shred basket.

  4. Negatives concerning death investigations will not be destroyed.  Instead they will be placed in the case file with all original reports, and destroyed according to public record laws.

Unwanted ammunition / SAFE KEEPING Property Evidence will receive ammunition from the public for the purpose of destruction.  All ammunition up to 50cal may be submitted by the impounding officer as described below but listed as destruct only.  When a deputy seizes ammunition in original packaging or safely contained in other rigid containers they do not need to repackage the bullets.  Use the bellow information for the collection of spent rounds or small amounts (10 or less) lose rounds.  The bellow information is provided for rounds that may contain trace evidence (shooting scene).

TOWED VEHICLE UPDATES:

  1. Please notify Tamara Markle when ever a vehicle is towed to the Impound Lot, Vehicle Bays, or other Sheriff's Office location.  This includes any updated information;

    1. Vehicle was towed to the Vehicle Bays and later moved to the impound lot, or

    2. Vehicle was towed to the Vehicle Bays and later transferred to a private tow lot,

    3. Etc.

  2. Tamara is able to update the vehicle's LEDs entry so any agency can advise the owner as to its current status.
