Property-Evidence will not accept or store food items except for purposes of fingerprinting and destruction. Food items are perishable, attract pests and vermin, become stale, and lose their resale value when stored.
IMPOUNDING OFFICER PROCEDURES
Food items are seized for fingerprinting only. When processing is complete, the containers will be destroyed. Impounding officers should advise citizens of the impending destruction.
Photograph the item and case number.
Complete the evidence tag and attach it to the packaging or use a twist-on tag.
Complete the property-evidence report and indicate that the items are to be fingerprinted and destroyed.
Indicate on the property-evidence report (if applicable) or the incident report that the food was photographed and destroyed.

STORAGE
Place one barcode on the item and the corresponding barcode on the property receipt.
After fingerprint processing is finished, dispose of the item.
