Property Evidence will maintain negatives of all photos for the normal statute of limitations. The photos will not be placed in the file jacket with the original report. Evidence will maintain a regular photo archive section.
IMPOUNDING OFFICER PROCEDURES
Use 12 or 24 exposure rolls of 35mm film.
Do not place multiple cases on one roll of film.
Take the first photo of the case number (Camera Shot Sheet)
Photograph the crime scene.
Remove film from the camera and leave empty. With a permanent marker write the case number on each film canister.
Complete the property-evidence report. If you have taken more than one roll of film, itemize each roll on the property-evidence report. (ex: Item #1, 1 roll of film, Item #2, 1 roll of film).
Place the exposed film into evidence locker #60 at the Sheriff’s Department, and locker #1 at East Precinct if only items submitted in that particular case. Otherwise, place into locker with other evidence and note location on property-evidence report.
Place the property-evidence report (yellow & green) in the property-evidence basket in the Evidence Processing Room.
NOTE: PRINTS WILL NOT BE MADE UNLESS INDICATED. ALL REQUESTS FOR PRINTS MUST BE MADE A MINIMUM OF THREE (3) DAYS PRIOR TO THE COURT DATE.

STORAGE
Log in and process all 35mm film.
Send film for developing to authorized contracted processor only.
Request prints to be made in matters of physical injury, homicide or earmarked for printing by deputy.
Upon return of the film from processing, place the negatives and pictures in a barcoded envelope.
File the envelope numerically by case number in the photo file drawers.
Place Polaroid photos in designated drawers within the evidence room.
DISPOSAL
Upon disposition of the case request authorization from the investigating officer.
Upon expiration of Statute of Limitations. Request authorization from the investigating officer.
Once disposal is authorized place all negatives and any remaining prints into the shred basket.
Negatives concerning death investigations will not be destroyed. Instead they will be placed in the case file with all original reports, and destroyed according to public record laws.
