VIDEO TAPES

 

Property-evidence maintains video recordings as evidence that may be useful in investigations.  For additional resources please see the Digital Photography Procedure.

 

IMPOUNDING OFFICER PROCEDURES

  1. Remove the recording tab from the tape to ensure it will not be written over accidentally.

  2. Do not allow the tape to come in contact with any magnetic device (speakers, magnetic card key, etc.)

  3. Package the video tape into a case provided in the Evidence Processing Room.

  4. Complete an evidence tag and place onto the case.

  5. If the tape is being submitted for analysis, fill out the Forensic video analysis form and submit with yellow and green property receipt.  Only original tapes can be processed. 

  6. Complete the property-evidence report.  Place the yellow and green copies into the basket in the Evidence Processing Room.

 

EVIDENCE OFFICER PROCEDURES

STORAGE

  1. Ensure proper packaging; refer to example board in the evidence processing areas.

  2. Place one barcode on the item and the corresponding barcode on the property receipt.

  3. Write the case number on the bottom of the video case.

  4. Place the item in the area designated for videotapes within the evidence room.

  5. Using the barcode reader, scan the location of the shelf and then scan the barcode affixed to the item.

  6. Place the item in numerical order by case number.
