E-MAIL to www,IAPE.org, August 22, 1998 [pg. 5] Lt. Latta; I enjoyed the class that I attended in Orlando, Florida. I took quite a lot of information from the class and developed several of my own ideas and brought them to my agency. We have implemented them. We will be moving to a new office/warehouse in November. I will be making notes and I feel sure that I will write a short story for you. We are two years behind in PURGING. I have taken several ideas and put them into action in an attempt to get rid of all of the items that are not needed before we make that move. That alone will be a story. Again, I really enjoyed the class. It was very welcome to be around folks that actually knew what Property/Evidence was all about. Diane Vann
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Letter to I.A.P.E., 7/9/98 [pg. 23] I am currently employed as a civilian Stock Clerk II in the Minneapolis Police Department Property and Evidence Unit. Upon seeing a past issue of The Evidence Log on my supervisor's desk I was surprised to see that such a magazine containing information on working conditions, drug warnings and products used in our working environment is available to those of us in this specialized field. Discovering a resource to which one can learn more about an "industry standard" for the way other P&E units are running, or should be run, is of great interest. To follow the changing tides of the Property & Evidence field is essential, and as the demand on the role of physical procedures undoubtedly change as well. With written documentation on current trends and changes we can bring to the attention of our supervisors, and instituted decision makers (who govern the spending budgets) these changes and request action accordingly. There are many concerns within our unit ranging from job titles to the repercussions of placing biological evidence on our carpeted office floor without proper disinfecting. Again, to understand an "industry standard" might help us enact some changes with our unit. Please forward all correspondence on requirements for membership, cost of subscription to The Evidence Log and other benefits to membership in I.A.P.E. to the below address. Scott T. Miller
