IAPE Web Site
Now Offers Sample Policy
http://www.iape.org

If you haven't been to the web site of the International Association for Property and Evidence lately, then you need to link up again. It continues to improve, and now has added a sample "Property and Evidence Policy".

If your department doesn't have a written policy specifically dedicated to operation of a professional property and evidence unit, then a great way to start would be to download this sample policy and then modify it to meet your exact situation.

We don't recommend implementing this policy "as is" because every Department is likely to have managers and legal advisors who want written policy to reflect their exact perspectives of legal interpretations, general department policy, and sometimes even specific procedures. This sample, however, still gives you a very solid framework on which to build your specific departmental policy regarding the handling of property and evidence.

There are a number of other features on the IAPE web site that you won't want to miss.
Was there a specific policy article in The Evidence Log that you remember seeing and want to reference, but it's in the one issue that you can't find? Check out the web site posting of the complete text of all of the policy articles from past issues of the magazine. Do you need some news stories to convince your Chief or Sheriff of the importance of a professional property management system? Do you want to see what opportunities are available for training or what positions might be available in your profession?
