From the desk of Executive Director Joseph T. Latta Dear IAPE Members, What a year! In the past twelve months we again visited north, south, east and west to put on over 25 training classes to well over 1,200 property room professionals. We also visited our neighbors to the far north in Sarnia, Canada, who are great hosts, by the way! Our membership has grown every year for over a decade, and at last year's end we had over 2,500 members in almost every state, Canada and Guam. As most of you read in late 2003, we started our Certified Property and Evidence Specialist (CPES) certification program, in which property room experts can become certified in their profession. As of March 31, we have 124 people who have taken passed the on-line test and become CERTIFIED PROPERTY AND EVIDENCE SPECIALISTS. Congratulations! If you are reading this letter, look at the following table showing
those states that don't yet have a CPES. If you are from a state that is
not yet represented, take a step forward and lead the pack!
What else is new, you may ask? This year brought the publication of the new property and evidence book which is setting the standard for the profession in its first few months in print. The book is hundreds of page of facts, concepts, horror stories, policy issues and just plain common sense. The book Property and Evidence By The Book, is by yours truly! For more information see page 42. We have classes coming up in Alaska, Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Georgia, Florida, Arizona, Idaho, Tennessee, Ohio, Illinois, Burbank and Greater Sudbury, Ontario, so I'm looking forward to seeing many of you in the next few months as I travel the country promoting JAPE through our updated property classes. Sincerely,
