As a Certified Property and Evidence Specialist (CPES), Deputy Mike Campbell of the Rockingham County (North Carolina) Sheriff's Department, is proud of his professional CPES designation. Mike, who has spent the last five years of his twelve year career working in the Property assignment, submitted a proposed patch that could be worn on the uniform or work gear by his fellow CPES designees. When I.A.P.E. Executive Director Joe Latta and Board President Bill Kiley saw the photo and the patch, they were elated with Mike Campbell's design. Kiley said, "Our Association is delighted with Deputy Mike Campbell's initiative and his design of the C.P.E.S. patch. We will advise our membership of the availability of this new insignia which they can proudly wear." The Executive Director of I.A.P.E., upon reviewing the proposed patch, said, "Mike Campbell's work on this patch will help to bring attention to all in law enforcement about the increased level of professionalism that C.P.E.S. designees bring to their departments."

Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page is proud of Deputy Campbell's achievement as a CPES, the Sheriff stated, "By [Mike] receiving this certification, he not only has improved his level of expertise, but helps keep our standards high in evidence control."

The patch design includes the copyrighted depiction of a woman, blindfolded, sitting and holding scales of justice in her left hand and an evidence log book in her right, with I.A.P.E displayed. The colors used were to accommodate the traditional colors associated with law enforcement. Brown often used by Sheriffs, Blue often used by Police, Black used by both and Gold often used by to seal certifications. The words "Certified Property and Evidence Specialist" circles the patch with 1993, the year I.A.P.E. was established.
