JOB_DUTIES: The Quincy Police Department seeks an individual to perform technical processing of crime scenes, to document such activity in written reports, and to testify in court. This full time civilian position is subject to 24-hour call out. Normal hours are M-F, 0800-1600. You will process crime scenes and provide direction regarding the processing and submission of physical evidence. Identify, collect and preserve physical evidence. Perform crime scene photography and basic and advanced crime scene fingerprint processing. Recover latent prints and other physical evidence via the utilization of presumptive testing (including various chemicals, powders, compounds and casting materials, in the field or in a lab environment). Obtain rolled fingerprints and palm impressions from witnesses, victims and offenders. Prepare accurate reports pertaining to evidence, property and crime scene activities. Maintain the agency Live-Scan equipment. Communicate with state crime laboratory personnel, State’s Attorney and other law enforcement agencies.

REQUIIREMENTS: Applicants must have completed at least 64 credit hours of college coursework from an accredited college or university with a grade point average of 2.0 (out of a possible 4.0) or better. Coursework in Photography, Criminalistics and Physical Science (Biology/Biochemistry, Chemistry or Forensic Science) is highly desirable. Preference will be given to applicants with a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in Biology/Biochemistry, Chemistry or Forensic Science. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) training in the field of forensics or at least three years of law enforcement experience specifically including evidence collection, report taking, crime scene investigation and fingerprinting will also be given preference. Applicants must pass a criminal background check and polygraph examination. Applicants must have a valid drivers license and obtain a valid State of Illinois driver’s license within 6 months of hiring. Applicants must become a resident of Quincy within 6-months of hiring. Top candidates will possess skills in utilizing and maintaining related instrumentation, photography equipment (35mm, digital, and video) and computers, be knowledgeable in areas of crime scene processing and legal issues pertaining to physical evidence, and understand the limitations and/or value of specific physical evidence. They will be able to communicate both verbally and in writing with attorneys, police personnel, coroner’s office and crime laboratory personnel and the general public.

Required Qualifications:

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION:

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
You must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires over six months experience.

PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS:

NATURE OF WORK:
