Plastic is notorious for destroying latent fingerprints.  Plastic can also hold unwanted moisture causing the evidence to mold, corrode, or rust.  Speaking of mold, one of the biggest health hazards endangering our Property Evidence Officers is ASPERGILLUS.  This is a very deadly mold that can grow on any biological item.  Aspergillus specifically likes marijuana and can grow with even a minute amount of moisture.

For the sake of saving possible latent prints, and preventing the creation of Aspergillus, our Property Evidence Unit is requesting that you do not use plastic except for drug related items (excluding marijuana) and jewelry if not being submitted for processing.
